Seahorse Program

North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club is very proud to offer the Seahorse Nipper Program for children with disabilities who would otherwise be unable to participate in a regular nipper program.

Seahorse nippers is an inclusive program for children and young people with physical and mental challenges. Your child can learn about the beach while socializing and gaining confidence in the water. Seahorse nippers runs approximately once a month from September through to May.

On selected Saturday mornings, our Seahorse Nippers will take to the sand and experience flag races, swimming and board skills in a happy and safe red and yellow environment.

The goal is to have a fun learning experience, to recognise a lifesaver and feel comfortable to seek help, increase awareness of beach safety. The program will teach swimming between the flags, improve gross motor skills and confidence in negotiating the sand and wave zones.

The Seahorse Program is all about having fun in a safe environment, learning new social skills and integrating with the broader community outside of existing friends, family and carers.

The program is run with a high level of volunteer help within the Club who act as facilitators, provide water safety and are mentors/ buddies for the participants. For some, there may be the opportunity to pursue integration into the main Nippers program.
